"I found out about The Celestine Prophecy from a friend of mine who was very into it. She was like, "Oh, my God, you have to read this book! It's so great, it changed my life!" So I of course ran out and got it. I hated it. I hated it. I thought it was the stupidest book I'd ever read in my life. I just thought it was horrible, and I was surprised that she actually recommended it to me.
The book is about a man who goes on this quest to find The Manuscript, which has nine principles for making humanity a better thing. There weren't any characters that I related to at all. I felt like the characters were shallow and kind of stereotypes, and the dialog between the characters was - people don't talk like that. It was ridiculous. Now, I didn't really appreciate the way the author, say, would create characters in different cultures but the names would still be completely Anglo or seemingly Irish names for people in Guatemala.
Don't believe the hype. It's a very popular book; so many people just went gaga over the book. Don't expect it to change your life. Don't expect it to be this amazing masterpiece. I would give The Celestine Prophecy zero stars, simply because I consider it the worst book I've ever read. An eight year-old could"
